GEORG MEYER-WIEL
Georg Meyer-Wiel is a London based artist and designer.
He works across multiple media and his work encompasses photography, painting, drawing, stage- and costume design.
Lifestudies.art is dedicated to his drawings and paintings with a focus on the male form, photography and abstract landscape paintings.
Georg Meyer-Wiel‘s paintings and drawings are a direct physical and emotional response to the world that surrounds him.
Whilst he repeatedly gravitates to the genre of portraiture in his drawings, his large-scale paintings fuse the figurative and the abstract and are usually the result of long-term research and complex material processes.
Through his photography, he draws from a lifetime of travels and human encounters to reveal poetic beauty alongside the world’s more unsettling and dystopian realities.
I approach the male form as both subject and collaborator. Over the past twenty years, I have extensively portrayed and documented men, developing a practice rooted in trust, proximity, and sustained engagement. I have found that the most vital art emerges not only from technical skill, but from presence, encounter, and exchange between artist and model.
Moments of dialogue—spoken or silent—infuse my work with immediacy, empathy, and life, grounding my commitment to work that honours the individual body while situating it within broader cultural and historical contexts. Georg Meyer-Wiel
Georg Meyer-Wiel X Alexander Abramov
Five Layers of Flash
For this collaboration, Georg partners with Russian artist and writer Alexander Abramov to create a limited-edition set of fine art prints, released in dialogue with Abramov’s anthology Uncovered Part II: Body.
The book unfolds through five character archetypes, each reflecting a distinct emotional state and moment of transformation. Inspired by these archetypes,
Georg has created five exclusive artworks that echo themes of exposure, vulnerability, and strength, brought together as a cohesive limited-edition set.
For Five Layers of Flash, I chose to combine references from each chapter of the book in a sequence that, side by side, traces the stages of unveiling the body. This approach allowed each motif to express both strength and vulnerability, echoing the delicate balance between exposure and self-protection. Transformation is the thread that runs through the entire work, and I connect with it deeply. In different moments of my life, I have stepped into these roles in my relationships and in my inner world, crossing boundaries, chasing passions, and confronting my own shadows. Georg Meyer-Wiel

RECENT EXHIBITIONS
THE DISCO AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE
GPS Gallery / Soho, London
21 October - 02 November 2025
In The Disco at the End of the Universe, the 2025 group exhibition by Artist Collective AndroTechne, Georg Meyer-Wiel presented a new body of work that reflected on the state of humanity at this point. The show featured his largest single canvas to date, showcasing a 2.6m high reinterpretation of the Fall of the Rebel Angels.
Amid climate collapse, rising authoritarianism and the slow crumble of liberal certainties the exhibition dared to offer art as passion, celebration and rebellion in response to a world that feels out of control: a show that was part love letter, part battle cry, part mirrorball.

This body of work is a story about personal encounters, in which he depicts images of raw yet fragile and often intimate beauty.

EXPOSED
Firepit Gallery London
13 March – 07 June 2025
EXPOSED explored and challenged the invisible parts of us, secrets, and untold stories that we carry with us every day, while celebrating the courage it takes to share these deeply personal truths.
In this exhibition, the act of exposure has been shown as a form of liberation — a declaration that the things we carry in silence do not define us, but that by sharing them, we can transform our pain into connection, our isolation into community.
EXPOSED ran alongside BUSTOUT100, a powerful photographic tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness, and 10% of all sales have been donated to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

DRESS:CODE
Galerie Newman Berlin
13 September – 31 October 2024
DRESS:CODE was Georg Meyer-Wiel’s first solo exhibition at Galerie Newman, in which he has shown drawings on historical documents, that reference today’s dress-codes and body culture. With the Private Views being hosted during the annual Folsom Europe event, the focus of the show was on fetish and the multitude of related dress codes found throughout the gay community.
‘’As a gay man I often wonder what life must have been like over the past centuries, without the rights that large parts of today’s world enjoy and take for granted. When working with life models and portraying them on historical documents, I transport my protagonists into the distant past, where they could not have had the life they live today. Many of my drawings also reference today’s dress-codes and body culture and I especially like to use documents from countries that until now do not accept and punish homosexuality, as this creates a strong juxtaposition when they are used as context for homoerotic drawings.’’ Georg Meyer-Wiel

ONLY THIS MOMENT
Fitzrovia Gallery London
11 - 16 June 2024
In his solo exhibition ONLY THIS MOMENT, Georg Meyer-Wiel showcased paintings on canvas.
In this deeply personal record of his own experiences and encounters, he depicts moments of pulsating nightlife that he has experienced over the past decades.
With powerful brushstrokes he captures the essence of the night: the fleeting, intimate encounters, the steam and the trance during which the rest of the world, the exuberant party, recedes into the distance.
Whether on the dance floor or in the middle of a chill-out scene – what matters is the intensity of only this one moment.

THE AIRMALES
The Gallery at The Crown and Anchor Provincetown MA
07/21/23 – 08/20/23
In the solo exhibition The Airmales in Provincetown / MA, Georg presented a new body of works on paper, exploring the male figure. Starting with a series of portraits on historical airmail letters, the exhibition explored multiple facets of masculinity through a rich variety of media.
Having studied graphic design, Georg developed a habit of collecting ephemera, and many of his figurative drawings are executed on original antique envelopes and other historical documents, some of which date back 300 years.
The subject of travelling creates unique narratives by placing the figures in times and places that actually once existed, in a world now long lost. These artworks invite us to travel the world and map out long forgotten journeys and relations.

RIVERMAN
Fitzrovia Gallery London
16 - 21 May 2023
In his 2023 solo exhibition RIVERMAN at Fitzrovia Gallery London, Georg Meyer-Wiel showed a body of works on paper and canvas, depicting the male figure along waterways.
The paintings reveal man as a small part of a much larger ‘picture‘, referencing his elemental connectedness to water and the natural world.
My travels along many rivers, from the Amazon to the Zambezi, and my observations and experiences of man’s relationship with watercourses have had a lasting influence on my life and work. I am particularly fascinated and inspired by the transformative nature of water as refractive and reflective processes create endlessly shifting abstract images from original forms. Georg Meyer-Wiel

Gardens of Earthly Delights
Espacio Gallery London
9th - 14th November 2021
In the group exhibition Gardens of Earthly Delights by artist collective Androtechne at Espacio Gallery London, Georg has shown for the first time sculptural work and one of his largest works on canvas to date.
Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’, Georg responded to the 15th Century masterpiece by exploring a detail found in the centre of Bosch’s painting, a group of nude bathers standing in a shallow, like in a fountain of youth. In Georg’s interpretation, his all male cast is surrounded by a siege of herons and flocks of other water birds such as kingfishers, which are representing the men’s desires and symbolize the renewal of life.
The composition, which comprises of almost 50 men and about 80 birds, brings together studies of numerous life models. A series of original drawings created in preparation, as well as the painting itself, can be found in the gallery ‘Earthly Delights’,

PUNCH
Fitzrovia Gallery London
10 - 15 May 2022
In his 2022 solo exhibition PUNCH at Fitzrovia Gallery London, Georg Meyer-Wiel presented new drawings on paper, exploring the subject of boxing and wrestling. Starting with a series of studies on historical documents, the exhibition explored masculinity through a rich variety of media.
‘‘Movement has always inspired me. When observing the human body, I am mostly drawn to dancers and boxers. Dance, being choreographed, celebrates the beauty of harmonious movement. The culture of Boxing can be traced back thousands of years, yet it still seems unpredictable, raw, archaic. This allows me to fully apply my techniques and use of media to capture its energy, passion, violence, the fight, voyeurism and sexuality.’’ Georg Meyer-Wiel

Works on White
This gallery shows drawings of the male figure on white paper. Many of these works depict the act of Undressing and the rich variety of dress codes. They explore how garments and materials cover the body and create identity. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Master Degree in Fashion Design, and working also as a Costume designer, explains Georg’s interest in fabric and garments.
Georg’s paintings are usually the result of complex material processes, using paints, corroded metals, and polished graphite. Combined with figurative drawings, they fuse the immediacy of a drawing with rich background textures.

Georg Meyer-Wiel's monograph The Life Studies is published by Bruno Gmünder in the series Portfolio1000. The limited edition book focuses on Georg's male drawings.
